How betting odds work: Betting odds explained

For everyone new to gambling, the betting odds represent the first real hurdle you’d have to overcome. Of course, when playing online casinos the topic of betting odds would hardly ever come up, but people more interested in sports betting would certainly need to brush up on their math skills. And in essence, the betting odds are nothing more than a little bit of basic math with a sprinkle of some logic. Once you understand the format the odds can take, it’s really simple from then on. Here we will have the betting odds explained in a very easy to assimilate way.

Betting Odds Explained

What are odds?

Starting from the ground and building up, let’s first define the foundation What are odds? The odds are the statistical probability of an event to occur. Another way to think of odds is what are the chances of something to happen (or not happen, depending whether you are a glass-half-empty type of guy/gal). How do we translate that into sports betting? With the betting odds, of course.

Betting odds explained

The betting odds are slightly different, however. While you can still think of the betting odds as the probability of something to happen (one team to win the game, to cover the point spread, etc.), the betting odds actually show the chances of that to happen via a payout the bet would offer. Before you get bored with all the fancy talk, let’s pop in an example of how the betting odds differ.

Let’s say that the simple odds of coin flip to come up head are 2/1, i.e. 50% of the time it will, the other 50% it won’t; simple enough. If we incorporate this example into the betting odds, for instance, a sportsbook gives you 2/1 betting odds that the next flip would be Heads, the difference here is that the sportsbook tells you that they will pay you $1 for every $2 you bet on the toss coming up Heads. Without going into much detail yet, we should note that a sportsbook would never give you such odds (you may get 5/3 betting odds), but don’t worry, we’ll cover this a bit later, too.

To summarize, odds are the probability of something happening, while the betting odds represent the payout a winning bet will give the bettor. Sometimes those odds may be exactly the same, but oftentimes they would differ, even if only by a hair. Why? As promised, let’s go back to the earlier example, mainly why a bookmaker won’t give you 2/1 odds on a coin toss. The sportsbook needs to make money, and if they gave you 2/1 odds, chances are (ahem, odds) that you would win half the time and lose half the time. So how is a sportsbook to make any money to stay in business?!? Well, that’s why the sportsbook or betting website, or what have you, will include a small difference in their favor, called the vig or “juice”. This is one of the main reasons the betting odds would never reflect the actual odds of something to happen.

How betting odds work?

Now that we have the betting odds explained, it’s time to look at how the betting odds work. This is where it would get slightly more complicated, thanks to one form of displaying the odds, popular in the USA. But to make this easier, we will leave it for last. Let’s quickly look at the type of odds you could encounter, and they are:

  • Fractional Odds
  • Decimal Odds
  • American Odds

The decimal betting odds are the easiest to work with, since they take the form of a decimal multiplier. An example of such odds are “2.40” or “1.10”. When you have decimal betting odds, all you have to do is multiply your bet by the odds and you will get the total payout. For instance, if you bet $10 on a sporting event with odds 1.80, your potential payout (when you bet wins) is calculated as such: $10 x 1.80 = $18. If you are placing a parlay bet, it’s just as simple, you just keep on multiplying the odds and at the end, multiply by the stake, and you’ve got yourself the bet’s payout. Sadly, the decimal odds are popular in Europe and Asia only, so if you are in the US, you would have to either learn to work with the American betting odds or, if you bet online, simply choose the decimal odds from a menu available at any online sportsbook.

The Fractional odds aren’t much harder, either. The take the form of a fraction (duh!) and look like this: 2/1, 5/2, 11/10, etc. and are pronounced as “two to one”, “five to two”, and so on. If you guessed that 2/1 (two to one) means that the sportsbook will give you $2 for every $1 wagered, you already know how the fractional odds work. Really simple, although not as popular. Mostly you would find these betting odds at horse racing events.

Now we are coming to our PhD portion of the betting odds – the American odds format. If you are from the USA and you have been to a sportsbook (online or offline) you’ve already seen this type of betting odds – they look something like “+110”, “-200”, “+1000”. The American betting odds are an oddity (yet another pun), since you have to watch out for the “+” plus and “-” minus signs in front of the number first, in order to understand how these betting odds work and how to calculate them.

If a number has a “plus” sign in front, it means that the sportsbook will pay you that much for every $100 you bet. For example, the odds +180 mean that the betting site will pay you $180 for every $100 you wager. So if you wager $10 and you win, you will get $18, i.e. it is not mandatory to bet $100 or by hundreds.

If the sign preceding the number is a “minus”, this means that you would have to bet that number in order to win $100. The obligatory example of how these odds work: if you got -200 odds, it means that you have to bet $200 (the number after the minus sign) in order to win $100. Weird, we admit, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier, we promise.

At the begging you could use an odds calculator or a converter with the American betting odds, or if you bet online you could simply trust the sportsbook to have your payout calculated without any mistakes. As a start, let’s learn one simple rule that would help anyone, whether you plan on betting on sports or simply want to be a bit more knowledgeable when people talk about sports at the office. And the rule is as follows: if the odds begin with a plus sign, it indicates underdog, if they start with a minus, it is the favorite.

Of course, while this works if you have the odds on the winner of an NFL game, it wouldn’t quite work on future odds, for example, on who will win the Super Bowl this season. In that case, especially at the start of the season, you may find that the betting odds on all teams begin with the plus “+” sign. In such cases (let’s learn another rule), the smaller the number, the more favorite the team is. So if you have the Chiefs with +500 to win the Super Bowl and the Dolphins with +10000, the Chiefs are much more likely to win, thus they would pay much less on your future bet.

In conclusion, the betting odds could be very simple or give you a headache just by looking at them. Luckily, practice is all it takes to become proficient, even with the American-style odds, so don’t be discouraged right away by the perceived complexity of the topic. Using online sportsbooks is an easy way to get your feet wet, without the risk of making mistakes when calculating the odds, yet you would get some much needed practice and experience.

Another resounding “yes”. It is not uncommon for people, who are new to online gambling, to be skeptical about the casinos actually paying real money. Over the years many people have been conditioned to believe that if it’s too good to be true, one should be instantly suspicious. But truth be told, the online casinos, at least the legit online casinos, are an exact representations of the land-based casinos. You can win money or you can lose money, it’s all down to luck. And just like the Vegas casinos, the online casino sites will also have the games work in their favor – blackjack still has the same house advantage, the slots have a payout percentage that would ensure the casino wins money in the long run, and so on. In this regard, the casinos will absolutely pay real money to their winning customers. Why Choose New Online Casino

There are many reasons why someone would decide to find a new online casino, rather than continue playing at their current establishment. While we can’t cover every possible scenario, there are a few main reasons as to why choose a new casino.

The bonuses and promotions are certainly at the top of everyone’s list. As we all know, the welcome bonus is the single biggest and best offer you would every get at any online casino. As such, many people are looking for a new casino website, where they can one again take advantage of the incredible signup offer. As you can see from the list above, the casinos never fail to disappoint. At High Country Casino, for example, you can get a 500% match on your first deposit, and get back 50% of your loses, should you fail to win with all that free cash. This is by far the best bonus we have seen among the newest online casinos, thus we have rightfully placed High country at the top of our ranking. While some casinos will also offer great bonuses for existing players, you simply can’t beat depositing $100 and playing with $600, for example, while still having $300 to fall back on, should Lady Luck fail to smile upon you.

Different casino games are the second biggest reason why people decide to choose a new online casino. Even though most casinos today will offer well over 300 different slots alone, people always crave variety. And the best way to get that variety is to find a new casino that is powered by a different gaming software provider. You can see that in our list we have noted which software the newest casino websites use, and this is the reason why. For example, if you have been playing WGS-powered casino, switching to one that is using the RTG software is a quick way to play all new casino games, not just changing the casino itself. And the gambling companies understand this, that’s why you can see that some of the newest online casinos on the list offer games for more than one software developer – even better.

How To Choose New Online Casinos

It may seem as a daunting task to choose one of the newest online casinos on the internet, but one should approach this in the same way you choose a casino in general. You have already taken the most important step – having a safe and reputable list of new casino websites, so the hard part is over. We talk about safety and new casinos at the close of this guide. Now all you have to decide is which one of those new casinos above you should start playing first. Most people look for and compare the following features:

  • Bonus Offers – rule of thumb is that the newer the casino, the bigger the bonus, and as you can see from the table above, the newest casinos don’t disappoint. You can compare the bonuses and promotions at a glance and choose the best one that fits your financial availability. But you can see that no matter which one you choose, they all offer amazing bonuses for new customers.
  • Gaming Software – changing the brand of casino software will change all the casino games available to play. We recommend that you choose a new online casino with a software different than your old one. This way you can play new casino games right from the start.
  • USA Players Accepted – sometimes a casino would make the decision to exit a certain market, especially the USA, since the competition is very high. This would leave US players with the task of having to find a new online casino to patronize. We have noted which of the newest casinos accept USA players, to make it easier to choose one.
  • Payment Options – while most casinos are pretty much on the same page, when it comes to payment options, it still pays to check and compare those, as well. Some new casinos will have great success with credit card deposits, such as High Country Casino, while others will offer extra bonuses for Bitcoin deposits, such as CryptoReels. You can see which is more important, or simply choose to play at both, switching between them deposing on your current preferred payment method, in a way, having your cake and eating it, too. Or maybe you prefer online casinos that pay fast, rather than extra bonuses for payment methods; you can choose a new casino website based on that criteria.

Safe New Online Casinos

Looking for new online casinos could be a double edged sword, should you take it upon yourself to do (or not do) all the necessary research. The internet gambling industry is very lucrative, and as such it attracts both good and bad actors. Since the Internet is hardly a regulated entity, anyone can create a new casino and start accepting customers, while having no intentions of building a future, rather just after the quick buck. Then there is the fact that the industry is also very competitive, thusly quite a few new online casinos simply won’t have the financial backing and expertise to make it – soon after being established – starting to delay payouts, miss withdrawals time tables, and eventually flat out disappear.

Needless to say, you would want to avoid all those types of potential pitfalls, when looking for a quality new online casino. And this is where we come into play, with decades of experience, we know which companies are good and which are only after a quick profit (or worse). While we don’t list all the newest online casinos on the web, our selection encompasses only those casino websites established by trustworthy gambling companies with many years in the business. All new casinos here are part of gambling firms that have proven they care about the customer in the long run, make payouts on time, don’t overwhelm their players with unnecessary requirements aimed at delaying or denying withdrawals, and avoiding the many other ways rogue casinos get their moniker. You can play with confidence at any of the new casino sites ranked on this page, knowing that they are backed by solid companies with great reputation.

Large deposit online casinos: Where to make big deposits at the casino sites

While most people don’t look for the online casino with the largest deposit max, a few folks like to play big and need to make large deposits in order to do so. But fewer and fewer online casinos today are willing to take the risk with big deposits. In the table below you can find the casinos with the largest deposit limits; keep in mind that we update the list frequently, as things change, and so will the ranking overtime.

Of course, if you want to deposit big, that same risk applies to you, the player, not just the casino. If you are willing to risk big deposits, you must be certain that you only play at trustworthy casinos. Which is why we have kept the list smaller than one would expect – only casinos with at least a decade of proven reputation could be found here! That may limit the options a bit, especially if you are an experienced player and already patronize some of them, but with large deposits, better safe than sorry. So, without further ado, here is the most current list of casinos with large depositing limits:

CasinoMax DepositBonusMethod
Miami Club CasinoNo Maximum Deposit150%When using Bitcoin as depositing method
High Noon Casino$10,000200%This max deposit is when using Bitcoin
Slots Plus$5,000400%When using any of the credit cards
Sun Palace Casino$5,000150%Credit card - Visa, MasterCard, Amex
Bovada Casino$5,000100%With Bitcoin deposit option
Vegas Casino Online$5,000400%With credit card

One of the biggest reasons to make large deposits at the online casino is, of course, to get the best bonus possible. Since nearly all types of bonuses are based on a percentage of the deposit the player makes, it only makes sense that the larger the deposit, the larger the bonus.

Depending on the casino, you can make out like a bandit just by claiming a bonus offer, along with your big deposit amount. For example, Lad Vegas Casino has a 400% match bonus of up to $10,000. This means that when you deposit $2,000 you get to start playing with $10K right away. We don’t have to tell you that not many players deposit such large amounts, but for those who do, this type of deal is impossible to pass.

Needless to say, you don’t have to deposit large amount to qualify for those bonuses, you would still get four times your money; you can deposit as little as $5 if you wish, with some online casinos. But considering that the welcome bonus could be claimed only once, along with the fact that it’s usually the largest match bonus offer, many people choose to go big with their first deposit, maximizing the free money they get from the casino.

A point that ought to be made is that the largest deposit amounts at an online casino would be offered usually with a certain payment method. Since it’s a bit risky for the casino to take large deposits from players, especially new ones, most large funding options would be based on funding your player account with Bitcoin. It is the safest method for both the customer and the casino, thus the gambling websites feel more at ease offering larger deposits with the crypto.

This could be frustrating for some players, luckily there are a few casinos which offer sizable deposits with credit cards, as you can see from the table above. In this regard, we believe this list strikes a nice balance with the most popular payment methods for large deposits. And, of course, what would be the point of being able to make big deposits, if you weren’t able to bet big at the casino. You can check out our list of the best high limit casinos, however, it only make sense that the online casinos here not only take large deposits, but also offer high limit games.

The most popular among them are the slots, but in reality, table games are where you would technically be able to place the largest single bet. Some of them even allow as high a wager as $1,000 at the blackjack table. Some slots, too, would accept very high bets, in the hundreds per spin, so one would have no problem putting the large deposit (and the big bonus that comes with it) to good use.

In conclusion, we should note that the deposit amounts listed in the table above for each casino are general. This means that newer players would be limited to those max amounts, but players who have gambled with the casino for a while and have established history would definitely enjoy much higher deposit limits. Some VIP players won’t even have a max deposit, they could fund their account with as much money as they wish. So take those stated numbers as just an initial outline as to what would be the initial largest deposit and not as a limit set in stone forever.

Best online sportsbooks and offshore betting websites

Unlike the online casino industry, where people have much more choice in quality establishments, the world of offshore sports betting has never had the options casino players enjoy. Sure, at first look it seems that there are a ton of online sportsbooks, but if you dig just a bit deeper, the truth is that most of those offshore betting sites are pure crap. Despite the many offshore sportsbooks, fact is that only a handful of them are trustworthy and really worthy of patronizing. As you can see, our list of recommended sportsbooks include only 3 of them; a testament to the quality of those betting websites, but also an evidence of the struggles the sports bettors have to endure, compared to casino players.

The list of the top offshore sportsbooks is next, and we have also included our reviews and thoughts on why each sportsbook deserves a place in our ranking. These three USA sportsbooks are of the highest quality, and honestly, the only places we would be comfortable to bet. Despite the limited selection, one should be able to find a match, regardless of the type of bettor – pro or casual. But we highly recommend you avoid any other sportsbook, at least for the foreseeable future.

It’s important to underline the incredible fact that none of the sportsbooks on this list have missed any payments during the coronavirus epidemic, when for months no sports were being played anywhere in the world. Why is this fact so important – because it shows how financially stable and reliable these offshore betting sites are. When for months all their customers did was withdraw money from their betting accounts, these sportsbooks not only processed those payments in a timely fashion, but didn’t make bettors jump through hoops in order to get their much needed money.

So if you want to have the maximum possible peace of mind when betting online, choose any of these USA online sportsbooks and you won’t have to worry about a single thing. Sadly, there is a reason why our best sportsbook list is so short. Plenty of “famous” (read: those with a lot of advertising) betting websites failed to support their customers during those times of trial.

Bookmaker Review

Bookmaker is sitting atop our list of best online sportsbooks for a good reason, it is undoubtedly the best offshore sportsbook and has been for many years. This sports betting website is so good, it often outranks the Vegas sportsbooks when comparing features.

First, it’s reputation is impeccable; for well over 20 years Bookmaker has been a reliable betting site, always paying on time, never playing any games with its customers, there is really nothing bad you’d read on the Internet about Bookmaker. In other words, these guys always pay and they pay on time, without any BS.

Bookmaker is also the most liquid offshore sportsbook, something extremely important to both pro bettors and casual players alike. After all, how can you expect a sportsbook to pay its customers’ winnings, if they don’t have the money to cover their position? This betting company, however, is as rock solid financially, as they come. One can bet here without any worries about getting their payouts processed in a timely manner. Bookmaker has weathered many a storm in the online gambling industry and we are 100% confident they will continue to do so in the future.

Another great feature many bettors appreciate is the very high betting limits Bookmaker offers its customers. If you consider yourself a high stakes betting enthusiast, this top online sportsbook got you covered. Which brings us back to the importance of having solid financials – you can’t take and pay high stakes bets, if you don’t have the liquidity to cover them. But bets in the teens of thousands of dollars are an every week thing with this excellent betting site. Pro bettors and sharps choose Bookmaker over any other betting website, because here they are always welcome to try their skills.

And finally, this sportsbook is geared more towards the pros, rather than the casual bettor. It is THE preferred sportsbook for high limit bettors, thanks to the superior financial situation there. Bets in the 6 digits are routinely placed at Bookmaker and you would never hear about a case where this betting website didn’t cover their bets to the last penny. It gives one the peace of mind to be a customer of such sportsbook, but it comes with a bit of a drawback – the casual bettor may begin to feel a bit unwelcome.

Overall, this is truly the best online sportsbook, bar none! It has been rated highest for many years and it is one of the very few bright spots in the offshore sports betting market.

Bovada Sportsbook Review

The Bovada online casino has long been ranked in the top 3 casinos on our website, but did you know that Bovada also runs one of the most successful and solid sports betting websites? That’s right, the Bovada sportsbook gives bettors the same high quality service the casino side of the business does. The sportsbook, along with the casino and poker room, make Bovada the compete gambling package. And we would’ve had it at the top spot, if it weren’t for a few small shortcomings; plus, it’s really hard to dethrone Bookmaker from the first spot on the top online sportsbook ranking.

Bovada has an excellent bonus for new betting accounts and you can expect to find solid odds on nearly every sport being played all over the world. Want to bet on darts or snooker – no problem, the sportsbook has odds on such obscure sporting events, as well. Plenty of betting markets and tons of props on everything, from NFL props to winners of elections and reality shows, Bovada will offer you odds on anything.

Where we feel Bovada drops the ball a bit is in the high stakes betting options. While the sportsbook is well known for shunning away sharps, sometimes it feels that they are going somewhat overboard. Quite a few people have seen their betting limits lowered quite a bit, when the betting site suspects them of being sharp, arbing or acting like pro bettors. No doubt, this offshore sportsbook caters mostly towards the casual bettor, pros should avoid it.

But if you just want to bet on sports, without any shenanigans, you can’t go wrong with Bovada. The sportsbook, as well as the casino, is solid financially, pays on time and without hustle, offers plenty of betting options, odds and props, and the bonuses are the biggest you can find among the good offshore sportsbooks.

5 Dimes Review (CLOSED To USA)

Normally we would’ve ranked the 5Dimes sportsbook right after Bookmaker, but this offshore betting website is heavily geared towards pro bettors, with high betting limits, low juice, many bet options, that we decided that Bovada, with its bonuses and ease of use,, would be a better option for the casual bettor. That said, 5Dimes is an excellent online sportsbook for anyone looking to squeeze the most out of their bankroll when they bet on sports.

The most famous feature of this betting site is, without doubt, their low juice odds. Among the best online sportsbooks, 5Dimes offers the best odds thanks to the reduced juice, which many pro bettors actively look for when choosing a sports betting website. Not only is the vig smaller than any other offshore gambling website, here customers can go even further – choosing their own odds. On many sporting events, there would be multiple options you can choose from to place a bet. For example, you can move the point spread any way you want – don’t like the -3.5 points, simply change it to 4 or 3 points. Naturally the payout odds will also change, but no other top sportsbook would even think to give you this option, to begin with.

Besides the ability to set your own odds, lines and payout, 5Dimes is also a very stable offshore sportsbook. They have been in business for over two decades and are yet to miss payments, even through the several though times the sports betting industry has had to endure.

Betting at the offshore sportsbooks instead of at the Vegas websites

Since the start of the legalization of online sports betting, this question arises for many people. Why should I bet at the offshore betting sites rather at the online offshoots of the Vegas sportsbooks? There are plenty of compelling reasons, let’s look at a few of them.

First off, after finding a legit betting website, there is not much of a difference of the mechanics for playing there. You still have the familiar layout of a sportsbook, deposit and withdrawals are easy and smooth, both will offer betting odds on the popular sports, etc.

The big difference comes when we get down to the nitty-gritty of the sportsbooks. For one, the offshore sportsbooks generally offer much better odds on the games, and we mean much better odds! If you actually compare the odds of a specific game at a good online sportsbook with its Vegas counterpart you will instantly see what we mean.

An online sportsbook will also generally offer a lot more sporting events and many more markets on the those sports. Prop betting, player wagers, and even uncommon options like Asian Handicap, first half, quarter odds, and many more.

For the more tech savvy bettors, there is the whole crypto payment world. Good luck finding a Vegas betting website that would let you deposit or withdraw using any of the popular cryptos, like Bitcoin, Tether or Ethereum. Those who have used crypto currencies like Bitcoin can certainly appreciate the speed and easy of those financial instruments. Not to mention the extra Bitcoin bonuses the online sportsbooks give when the customer deposits using any of them.

And speaking of free money, let’s not forget tat the offshore betting websites also have those amazing bonus offers ready for their customers. None of that $25 or $50 bonus bets the “normal” sportsbooks tend to offer: we are talking about in the hundreds and even thousands of dollars.

See all the latest casino bonus codes

How do the free casino games work? It’s very simple: all you have to do is use the bonus code provided under the free play offer, and that particular casino will let you play the slot (or slots) for free, no deposit is required to take advantage of any of those offers. If there is no code indicated, you can follow the link above to see a list of all the bonus codes available, along with the latest casino games you can play for free. All of those promos give the player a chance to actually win real money, yet no deposit is required. Every offer will have a limit to the maximum cashout you can take from playing the free casino games, so check the bonus terms before claiming the specific code.

Can you win real money on free slots? The answer is – absolutely! The casinos offer their players a certain number of free spins on particular slots and you can cash out what you win with those free spins, up to a certain amount. In essence, you are winning real money while playing casino games absolutely free, and no deposit is required to qualify for those free spins. This is definitely a sweet deal, if we’ve ever seen one.

Of course, unless you are a novice in the online casino world, you already know that not every casino will offer this type of promotion. As a matter of fact, very few online casinos will let you play casino games using the free spins to win real money, especially without the need for a deposit. So while we have done our best to find those bonus deals, you can see from the list above that only a handful of casinos do let you claim such promotions. And when you add the fact that we only mention casinos with impeccable reputation and long history in the industry, you can understand why this list will never be as long as many would desire.

There are a few thing to keep in mind when you play the free online casino games with the free spins offered by the gambling websites. Certainly you can win real money, this is the whole point, but note that you would be limited to the maximum cashout you can make, especially with the promotions that require no deposit as part of the bonus terms and conditions. The exact max withdrawal will depend on the casino and the particular game in question, but usually the most real many you could win is capped at about a couple of hundred dollars. Not bad, when you consider that  you don’t have to deposit any money, yet you have the chance to win real money, but it’s worth noting that it’s not unlimited.

Another point to make is that you will always be tied to a specific casino game, most often of the slots type. The casinos that offer this promo do so in order to generate interest in a new casino game or simply as a promotion within a specific period of time. This is one of the reasons you should check this page often – we update the range of free casino games you can play as the promotions change, so some will expire and new ones will appear. Now, if you don’t want to be tied to just one slot machine, you can check out our guide to the online casinos with free signup bonus, where you can also play free online casino games to win real money, without the need for a deposit, but your range of games is much greater with most of the offers there. It works a bit differently than the free games bonuses here, but also provides the opportunity for free online casino games, yet you can win real money playing those games.

Free online casino games no deposit

For the fans of video slots out there, we shouldn’t tell you that playing free slots with bonuses, especially those that offer free spins, is the best way to get to enjoy the games, yet have the chance to win real money. If you look at the listing of the casino games – you can see that you can play those slots for free with the bonus, which is free spins. There are a few online casinos which will offer these free spins you can use on particular slot machine.

Not only you don’t have to deposit any money in order to play, the free spins also qualify for a withdrawal of certain amount of your winnings. So in essence, you play free slots with the free spins offered, but if you meet the threshold of the wagering requirements – you can cash out what you’ve won, up to a certain amount. Why would the casinos offer this type of free slots bonus? It’s simply a way for them to promote their brand and compete with the rest of the online casinos. And at the same time they are hoping to gain a customer, once they enjoy the free casino games, and would possibly become interested in playing for real money.

How to win real money when playing free casino games? The answer is that there is no actual strategy, besides some basic rules to follow, mostly related to the terms of the promotion. It will always depend on your luck, since you will be playing the games the same way you would if you were to deposit money and play with it. But since the number of spins and the slots are both limited, it will all be up to Lady Luck. Other than that, make sure you cover the wagering requirements imposed by the free play offer. Once this is done, use discipline to stop when the maximum allowed real money cashout has been reached. The simply withdraw the real money you’ve just won. And this is how you play free online casino games, win real money, all with no deposit required.

The different types of casino bonuses and offers

It would be impossible to argue against the fact, that the bonus offer is among the most important features players value in an online casino. Sure, number of games, banking methods, reputation, etc. are all important, but more than half of the online casino players end up making the choice at which casino to play, based solely on the bonus offers. We also recognize this fact and you will find plenty of articles focusing on the various bonuses, from the signup casino bonus, through no deposit bonus codes, we have information on all the latest promotions the online casinos post, but today we will focus on the basic: the different types of casino bonuses and what they entail.

One can divide the online casino bonuses into many categories, depending on which factor you choose to separate them. For instance, you can divide them into cashable vs non-cashable bonuses. In our opinion, however, the very basic division goes as follows:

Types of casino bonuses:

  • Signup Bonus (Welcome Bonus)
  • Existing Player Bonus
  • Free Spins Bonus
  • Free Trial Bonus
  • Cashback Bonus
  • Deposit Method Bonus
  • Comp Points

Let’s look at all these types of bonuses in more detail.

Welcome Bonus/Signup Bonus

Of course we had to start the guide to the various casino bonus offers with the best and biggest the casinos have to offer – the signup bonus. It is the most popular tool in every online casino’s toolbox, when it comes to attracting new customers, as well as competing with other internet casinos.

As the name implies, the welcome bonus, or signup bonus, is offered to players who are making their first deposit (or in some cases, deposits, but we’ll explain later). The signup casino bonus is without doubt the biggest chunk of free money a player can get at the casino, although there will be many more bonuses one can claim, even some no deposit bonuses for existing players. But for your first deposit, make sure you take advantage of the welcome bonus at its fullest.

There are two ways the signup bonus is usually advertised by the online casinos – as a percentage of your deposit or as a dollar amount. Regardless of how the casino chooses to present the welcome bonus, keep in mind that in reality it will always be a percentage derivative of your deposit. For example, a casino may advertise $5,000 signup bonus, but this doesn’t mean that the player will get $5K as soon as they open an account. Usually, there will be a qualifier, for instance, 400% up to $5,000. This means that in order to claim the max signup bonus amount possible, one must deposit $1,000. That deposit, along with the 400% match for the online casino, will get you playing with the full $5,000. Of course, a player doesn’t have to deposit that much. One can deposit just $100, and since the signup bonus advertised is dependent on the deposit, you’d still get a 400% extra, playing now with $500.

Another casino may advertise a 200% match bonus on your first deposit as a welcome offer, instead of a dollar amount. In this case, it is more obvious that the welcome bonus is based on a percentage of your first deposit. Note here that even in this case, there will be a qualifier, something like “up to $10,000”. This is to indicate that the bonus is not limitless, but within a certain range. As with the previous version, you don’t have to deposit the max amount, you will simply get the 200% regardless of the actual money number you put in your casino account.

Another great feature of the free signup bonus is that it will usually have the lowest wagering requirements. This greatly improve your ability not only to win big, but to be able to cash out big, as well.

Existing Player Bonus

We won’t dwell much on this type of casino bonus, since it’s always going to be one of the other types of bonuses we talk about here. The only difference is that unlike the signup bonus, the existing player bonus is for people who have already signed up for a casino account and claimed the welcome bonus. The welcome bonus is a one-time deal, but that doesn’t mean the bonuses stop there – after that, every other bonus you get, whether a percentage of deposit, free spins, cashback, is considered an “existing player” bonus.

Free Spins Bonus

This free spins bonus initially was offered as an existing players bonus only or for special promotions when new slots came out, but with time the casinos wisely began giving this promo for new players, as well. Today it is not uncommon to see a welcome bonus that offers both deposit match bonus and free spins, at the same time.

So what is the free spins bonus and how does it work? It’s rather simple, the casino will give the customer a certain number of free spins, and depending on the terms and conditions, you can withdraw your winnings stemming from that free spins offer.

Every casino will do the free spins a bit differently, but there are some basic truths. For example, the free spins will usually apply only to one specific slot machine, you won’t be able to pick and choose the slots. As noted earlier, the free spins are usually given out as a promotional tool when a new video slot is being introduced by the online casino, as a way to drum up some buzz about the slot machine.

While no deposit is necessary to take advantage of this type of bonus, wagering requirements would be on the high side. Oftentimes you would also be limited to a max cashout amount, so keep an eye on this term, as well. Best practice is to withdraw once you’ve reached the max cashout amount and covered the playthrough requirements. All and all, this is a very good bonus and coveted highly by the casino players.

Free Trial Bonus

This bonus type is a variation of the casino signup bonus, but with a twist (and a good one for the player, too). This free trial bonus is the quintessential real money bonus no deposit needed option for the player and it works in the following manner. The online casino will give the player a certain amount of free money as a bonus, without the need for the customer to deposit any real money. The player, then in turn can play with that bonus and once its wagering requirements are met – the player can withdraw actual real money won with the bonus.

What is the catch, you ask? Well, for starters, the wagering requirements are the highest you will find among all the different types of bonuses. For example, if the usual welcome bonus has a playthrough requirement of 25 times the bonus, the free trial bonus will have something like 70. Another stipulation is that you won’t be able to cash out all your winnings from this bonus, rather it’s limited to a small amount, usually anywhere between $100 to $200.

What makes this bonus amazing, however, is the fact that it is an actual “something for nothing” type of bonus. You don’t need to make a deposit in order to claim the bonus money, and you stand to win actual real money from the bonus. As you can imagine, it’s very hard to find online casinos offering this type of bonus, but you can click here to see a list of casinos currently offering a free trial bonus of this nature.

Cashback Bonus

This is where thing become really interesting. Unlike the usual bonus offers, where you will get a bonus based on your deposit, the cashback bonus works a bit backwards. Essentially, the players get back some of the money they have lost during a certain period. We consider this a bonus because there are wagering requirements, albeit very low, attached to the cashback money.

Once again, the actual specifics will vary from casino to casino, but the fundamentals remain the same throughout. Online casinos which offer cashback (since not all of them would), would do so based on the money you lose within a period of time. For example, all your losses from Monday through Friday could qualify for a 35% cashback bonus. This means that if you lost $100 over the week, you can get $35 as a cashback bonus on Saturday.

One should always read the actual terms of the cashback bonus as they could vary wildly between different casinos. For instance, some online casinos would stipulate that only money deposited without claiming any bonus would qualify for the cashback, while others have no such requirements. And as mentioned, some casinos may have specific days of the week, during which your losses qualify for the cashback bonus, while others won’t. So always make sure you peruse the T&C of the cashback bonus.

Deposit Method Bonus

This type of bonus became vary popular with the wider adoption of cryptocurrencies by the online casinos, more specifically Bitcoin. Just like any other business, the online casinos have always taken on extra risk when players deposit using credit cards, while the Bitcoin casino deposit are much easier, cheaper and more secure. So in order to incentivize their customers to use Bitcoin as a depositing method, the online casinos began offering extra bonuses tied to this banking method. Some casinos today offer literally thousands of dollars in bonuses just for depositing with Bitcoin. All one has to do is claim a bonus code, and even if you already took advantage of all other bonus offers, just for depositing using this method you qualify for even more. Not a bad deal, considering that most casino players today also prefer Bitcoin due to the speed of withdrawals.

Comp Points

Including the comp points as a type of bonus may be seen by some as controversial, since it doesn’t quite fall into the requirements for a bonus – no codes, nothing to claim, it comes automatically (with most casinos), but our main qualifier has always been the wagering requirements, and comp points do have them more often than not.

What are comp points? The comp points are points you accumulate every time you play a casino game, and are derived from the amount you wager. For example, for every $10 you wager you receive 1 comp point. Then, in turn, you can convert those comp points into real money based on a formula specific to a casino, most of them using 100 comp points = $1. Unlike a casino bonus, you don’t have to claim any codes – the comp points accumulate in the background.

There are many casino-specific variations with the comp points, but generally speaking, the amount you accumulate would also directly correlate, and at the same time qualify you, for the different VIP levels the casino may offer. The more comp points you get, the higher your VIP status with the online casino, all while the higher your VIP status, the more comp points you get for every dollar wagered.

When you decide, you can convert the comp points for chips to play at the casino. Some casinos also offer prizes, raffle tickets and merchandise, you can “purchase” using comp points, although these days this is seldom the case. Most online casino simply give you the option to convert the comp points into cash.

In conclusion, as you can see, there are plenty of bonuses you can get at the online casinos. Which one you should chose is entirely up to you – you can claim them all or you can claim none. You don’t even have to claim the welcome bonus, if you so desire. But regardless of the type of bonus, always make sure you read the conditions of the bonuses you plan on claiming, as they differ not only between the casinos, but within the same casino as well. Just because last month you claimed a bonus, it doesn’t mean that this month it’s terms haven’t changed. And as always – have fun but do it wisely!

Online casino with free signup bonus, real money no deposit needed

Playing at the online casinos and winning real money is undoubtedly fun, but a lot of people are apprehensive at first to gamble with their own money. With so much fraud on the Internet, it’s only understandable that one may want to see if the casino is reputable and would pay out your winnings. Then, of course, there are the folks who are simply looking for the deal of a lifetime – free, real money bonus, without requiring a deposit. We will not beat around the bush here, it is nearly impossible to get free signup bonus at any reputable online casino. For the existing players, i.e. customers who have already deposited and played at the online casinos, there are plenty of no deposit bonus codes to take advantage of, but for the new customers, free sign up bonus offers are very hard to come by.

Of course, we found some real money no deposit needed online casinos, otherwise why would we even bother writing this article? We have found five different confine casinos with free sign up bonus, where in reality you can get real money no deposit sign up bonus. Why more casinos don’t do this, we discuss in more detail later. If you are just looking for the free sign up bonus casinos, here are those five:

*** Note, this is an exclusive no deposit signup offer. Visit our home page for the standard welcome bonuses of these casinos. ***

CasinoFree signup bonusReal moneyBonus code

$40$100LUCKYCHIP40
Slots Plus Casino$3,000$100STP20
Vegas Casino Online$3,000$100STP25
Old Havana Casino$3,000$135CSB35
Sun Palace Casino$3,000$120CSB20

Let’s talk about this no deposit real money signup bonus you can find at these online casinos. This is a unique offer, which you won’t find at other casinos, so we advise you to read through and even double check the conditions at each online casino, as sometimes details may change overtime without us noticing.

So, how do you get a free sign up bonus at the online casino, yet you can still win real money, no deposit? Here are the offer details. At any of the casinos above, customers who have never opened an account with them, can get $3,000 as a “free trial”. Since this is an exclusive offer, you must use the promotion codes noted in the table above. Of course, you can always skip this and simply go for their match bonus welcome offer. But if you want to take advantage of this particular no deposit free signup bonus, you must use the bonus codes when claiming it. You may say to yourself, “Well, nearly every online casino lets you play with no deposit required, that’s fake money”, but you would be wrong. The great deal here is that with when taking the free trial offer with the online casino here, you can actually win real money and cashout. Let’s dive in deeper into the details of this free sign up bonus.

Once you open an account and claim this offer, you get the $3,000 to play with. Note that at this point, no deposit is required. You can play with this bonus to your heart desire (or until you run out of chips). At the end, if you have met the 70x wagering requirements of the bonus, you are entitled to cash out up to $100 of the money you have won! And that’s why this is an actual free signup bonus with real money. Now, there is one caveat, which is there to protect the online casino from cheaters and bonus abusers. In order to be able to cash out the $100, you must make a deposit of at least $25 once with the casino. Once you have done that deposit, you can withdraw your winnings from the free signup bonus for real money.

To some people, the fact that you have to make a deposit in order to take out your real money winnings from the free signup bonus may seem counter-intuitive. But you have to put yourself in the casino’s place – you can’t just send people money willy-nilly. All licensed and regulated online casinos are required to verify the identities of their customers before they can pay them any money. We have talk about this in the past and you can real all about it at our casino verification documents guide. In some countries, for example the UK, this is referred to as “know your customer” or KYC, but regardless of the colloquial name, if the casino is regulated, it must follow these rules. And to be blunt, you should never play at an online casino that doesn’t follow these principles. That’s why the casinos above require that you make a deposit before you can withdraw the real money winnings of the free signup bonus. But when you look at it rationally, at the end of the day it’s still a free bonus with no deposit needed, unless you win. If you are not able to turn profit before you meet the wagering requirements (or run out of money), you have risked nothing. And if you win – then you can make a small deposit and get the max winnings from the free signup bonus. In a way, you can think of this as without pay play online games win real money free, simple as that.

Furthermore, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal, if you are looking for a free signup bonus, real money no deposit needed, no matter how hard you look. I mean, where else can you, without play, play online casino games, yet win real money free? Sure, there are plenty of similar promos for existing players, for example, free spins on certain slots, but in order to be an existing player – you have to have deposited money already. Or you may find an online casino that would offer a small token sum as “free money, no deposit needed” to try out the casino, but those amounts are quite tinny, usually $5 or $10, at most. You may be able to stretch $5 to an hour of fun at the penny slots, but forget about winning any real money, starting with such a bankroll. Yet with the free signup bonus codes above, you get to start with $3,000 in your account and could actually cashout a sizable sum.

As usual, we highly recommend players taking advantage of the regular “match” signup bonus, since it gives you much more money and at the same time carries lower wagering requirements. But we perfectly understand people who don’t want to commit to depositing real money, unless they are guaranteed a win. So if your goal is to find online casino with free signup bonus, no deposit needed, all while you stand to win real money if you get lucky, then this offer is the best on tap at the licensed and regulated online casinos. Or maybe you just want to play for a while, without the need for real money deposit, yet you want to have to option to cashout some actual money, then going for this bonus may be the best option for you.

Las Vegas casinos to reopen this week with safety in mind

For us in the gambling industry, the reopening of the Vegas casinos has been the sign to watch for “going back to normal”. Not only is the Las Vegas economy heavily dependent on the casinos for their revenue, but the place is such a gambling icon all over the world, the opening of their casinos is a sign that we have finally started the process of putting the coronavirus lockdowns behind us. And let’s not forget that when it comes to people being packed like sardines 24/7, no other place comes even close to the level achieved at any popular casino.

Of course, no one has ever expected that we will simply flip a switch and everything will go back to the way it was. While the Vegas casinos are opening on Thursday, safety will be the main theme on the Vegas Strip. Before reopening, every casino must submit a safety plan with the gambling board, and here are some of the items on those plans.

Firstly, hand sanitizing will be the main focus at the casino, with stations increasing throughout the properties. Many casinos have long provided hand sanitizing stations, but now their number will be drastically increased. In addition, all employees will be wearing masks, while patrons will be required to do so at certain table games, and encouraged to wear masks throughout the rest of the casino floor. For example, players at the roulette wheel will need to wear masks, while at the blackjack and craps tables, there will be plexiglass separating people playing those casino games.

All employees will also be screened for symptoms when coming to work, but it’s unlikely to see similar screenings for guests of the casinos. And, as we expected, social distancing will be enforced in the form of disabling every other slot machine, in order to avoid players sitting next to each other.

On the hotel side of the Las Vegas casinos, the use of mobile technology will be heavily utilized. Guests are encouraged to check out using their mobile devices, as well as using their phones to unlock their hotel rooms. Many hotels, not only those at the casinos, had begun using digital key technology before the coronavirus pandemic, so this process should be quite smooth and with few, if any, problems.

How the new casino safety measures would be received by the Vegas players is yet to be seen. While very few may complain about the extra space at the slots, heck, most people would welcome the additional leg room, the action at the tables may suffer quite a bit – blackjack players may not be too happy sitting in a plexiglass booth while betting. But regardless of the fact that there will be an adjustment curve initially, the fact that the Las Vegas casinos are finally reopening is a welcome sign, not only among casino enthusiast, but for everyone associated with the local economy. A lot of other casinos, not only in the USA, but the world, will be following the progress of the Vegas casinos and likely copy the safety measures taken there. We will certainly be keeping an eye on how this new normal works.

Casinos with highest slot payouts: Online casino slots with high payout percentages

The video slot machines at the online casinos are, without a doubt, the most popular feature. So it comes as no surprise, for those with basic understanding of how the casinos work, that people will be searching specifically for the casinos with the highest slot payouts. If you are new to online gambling, the basic premise is that all video slot machines (including those at the land-based casinos) operate on the payout percentage principle. This means that every slot machine will pay back a certain percentage of the amount the players wager, in the form of winnings. We go into a bit more details further into this article, but if you are anxious to just see which online casinos have the highest slot payouts, here is the list:

PositionCasinoSlot PayoutsOfficial Website
#1Slots Plus Casino> 97.5%
#2SlotoCash Casino> 97.5%
#3Las Vegas USA Casino> 97.0%
#4Bovada Casino> 97.0%
#5Vegas Casino Online> 96.5%

As promised earlier, let’s recap how the payout percentages work with the online video slots. Previously noted, the percentage is an indicator of how much of the money wagered the slots will pay back in the form of winnings. Naturally, the higher the payout percentage, the more the slot will pay. This is why people look for the casinos with the highest slot payouts.

Do Slot Payout Percentages Vary?

Now, one should keep a few things in mind. The payout percentage will vary not only from casino to casino, but also between the different slots at the same online casino. What we have done here, in order to give the most accurate ranking, is to average those payouts among the top 10 slots at each casino. Which is where the numbers in the table above come from: we have simply averaged the slot payouts among those top 10 games. So while one slot machine may have amazing payouts at a casino, if the remaining video slots are very tight, it wouldn’t make sense to even care to considerate that casino. While this may not appear to be the ideal method, in reality if we had to compare the payouts of all 300+ slots at every online casino, one must admit, it would be an insanely large an unwieldy list to comb through. There is such thing as information overload, thus we believe that this is the best method of ranking the top 5 casinos by slots payout percentages.

Who Decides the Slot Payout Percentages?

Another frequently asked question is who decides what would be the payout percentage for a certain video slot machine. The short answer is that it varies, for the long answer – read on.

There are two options for the online casinos, when it comes to setting up the slot payouts, and it all depends on the software provider. One option is that the casino is given the possibility of setting the payout percentage for a slot machine. If this is the case, the online casino may be given the choice of predetermined payouts, such as 98%, 96.5%, 95%, etc. The casino then can fine-tune those numbers to best match their overall strategy. For example, they may be interested in having a very loose popular slot in order to attract customers, much in the way retailers have so-called “loss-leader” products. Maybe the casino believes that they will make up the profits at the blackjack tables, where house advantage rules. Or they simply aim at achieving a certain profit margin, that would be in tune with their marketing budget and overhead. Whatever the reason, they have the choice of opting out for a high paying slots, tighter games, or anything in between.

Another option is, in a way, no option at all. Some casino software developers would simply set the slot payouts to a certain level and the casinos that use this software have no say in what those numbers would be. On first look, this may seem like a fair model, but it robs the casinos from their competitive edge. There is no way for one casino to make their slots pay more, thus attracting more customers to their property. And what if the casinos believe that the payout percentage was set too low in order to compete with casinos using different developer companies? In this case, the online casino must be certain that they work with experienced developers, companies that know the intricacies of the gambling market, otherwise they would be doomed from the start.

The Third Option

There is another option, quite popular in Europe, although it is yet to take a foothold with the casinos catering to the USA market. Traditionally, the online casino uses a single game developer and all the offerings at the casino are provided solely from said developer. There are online casinos, however, which use more than one such casino software companies. This not only gives them the opportunity to offer more games (hundreds more than what would usually be the case with single-developer casinos), but also the choice to set the payouts on some of those games, again, if the developer has this feature. As far as the USA online casinos, only the Bovada Casino currently uses a variation of this type of casino, but we hope to see more of them in the future. The sportsbook 5Dimes also has a multiple-casino options, but to be frank, with the exception of two of them, the rest a pretty crappy. That said, 5Dimes has a stellar reputation among the sports bettors, so if you are interested, you can check them out. But once again, their strength is in sports betting, working with casino players is not their forte, as it would be the case with Bovada, which also runs a very popular sportsbook, in addition to the famous casino.

How high can the slot payouts go?

Where would we be without answering one of the most popular questions, namely what are the highest slot payouts you can get at the online casinos. Could there be slots with the full 100% payout? Is it insane to believe the some slots have a casino-negative payout, for example, 101%? You can read out article Can slots pay back more than 100% to learn more, but let’s touch on it briefly here, as well. The answer would be to use common sense – would you start a company that offers a product which puts you in the red constantly? Of course not, an neither would the online casinos. Sure, you may see some casinos advertising 100% (or more) payouts, but there is a reason we have a list of reputable online casinos…If they claim their slots pay back 100 percent or more, you can be certain they are lying to you.

But to answer the original question of what is the highest payback percentage for video slots at the online casinos, 98.5% is about as high as you would get, and mind you, you won’t get this very often. Anything over 97.5% is considered a very generous offering, as you can see by the fact that only two casinos on our list make it this high. On the flip side, anything under 93% would be called a “tight” slot. As a rule of thumb, try to stick with slot payouts of over 95% and you’d be a happy camper. Keep in mind that we are talking about long-term audited payout percentages here. If you start playing a video slot and you hit a prize which is 5 times your wager with the first spin – it doesn’t mean that the slot’s payout is all of a sudden 500%! Which brings us to our final point about high slot payouts.

Are the slots payout percentages real?

In today’s world, it’s getting harder and harder to find real information on the Internet. As you can see, we can’t even get real news, so why not question the payout percentage a casino claims? As a player, you not only have the right to question whether the advertised slots payout is real, you dang nearly have the obligation to do so. As we always say, nothing prevents some scammers of creating a fake casino and post all kinds of fake information, including pay back percentages for the video slots. This is why you are strongly discouraged from just doing a search for a casino and hopping on the first one you see come in the search results (be especially wary of the ads sections of the search engines).

The honest casinos, however, are audited; you know: trust, but verify. The auditors would vary depending on the casino, but generally they would be third party and unaffiliated with the casino in any way. Some online casinos, for example, use the famous PricewaterhouseCoopers to verify their payouts, or Central Disputes System (CDS) to verify their RNG (random number generator). The online casino will be more than happy to provide their auditors and their credential to the customer, the reputable casinos, that is. If you are unfortunate enough to end up at a rogue casino all you will hear back of your request for audit is crickets.

Another point of research is the gaming commission and/or licensing authority under which the online casino operate. Not only do they keep an eye on the casino’s conduct, but customers can also file complaints and other grievances with those authorities, should they suspect something is amiss with the casino they patronize. Some online gambling companies are even publicly traded on stock exchanges (most notably in the UK), which add yet another layer of audit to their finances.

In the end, it all boils down to reputation, however. With experience comes knowledge, and with time you will learn which online casinos are trustworthy, and tend to steer clear of the rest. Reputation is the most important thing for a casino, especially if the casino has been in business for many years. The online gambling community is very tightly knit and news of tight slots or cheating casinos spread very quickly. That’s why the best advice is not to get enamored by the highest slot payouts, but to just make sure you play at a reputable online casino in the first place.

Can slots pay back more than 100%?

Ah, slot machines paying back more than 100 percent, who wouldn’t want to go to such wonderland? The field of dreams where the players always win and the casinos always lose. And if you were to believe the marketing materials coming out of some less-than-questionable online casinos, this is not only a reality, you can be there today! But in all seriousness, there is a good chance that you’ve seen some questionable online casinos advertise slots with paybacks of 100% or more. Today we will try to dispel this myth that there are slot machines with a payout of 100%.

First, we can go the common sense route. If you were the casino, would you offer a slot that not only has no possibility of making any money, but it will actually cost you to operate?!? Because while this imaginary video slot pays back all the money the players put in, your overhead continues to accrue. So why would you, in your right mind, offer such games at your overhead of course you wouldn’t, and neither would any online casino operator with a drop of business sense.

So how about those casinos that claim their slots pay back 100 percent? Well, frankly, they are just downright lying to you. On the bright side, you should welcome such opportunity to easily separate the wheat from the chaff – you would know right away to avoid those online casinos and save yourself a ton of headache down the road.

But I Have Heard the Stories…

A few readers, I’m sure, would immediately try to bring out some news story or rumor of how a video slot in Vegas was tested once by some gamblers and it ended up paying back more than 100%. And while such stories have circulated for as long as video slots have existed, some even spread by the casinos themselves in order to drum up some extra excitement and business, let’s not kid ourselves here. Of course, you can twist any statistics to fit your narrative. For example, if you were to log in to your favorite online casino and decide to play $100 at a slot, play for an hour and cash out $200, does it mean that the slot payout is 200%? Certainly not, and this is the biggest point that must be maid when we talk about slot payouts:

The Payouts Are Over Long Term

The calculations which take place in determining a payout percentage of a slot are based on a long term overview of that particular game. It is not only possible, but even a rule, that over a short term, slot machines could pay back more than 100%, and respectively, may pay back way less than the advertised payout percentage. Thus, it is entirely possible that a slot machine may give the impression that it paying back more than 100 percent, if we are talking about a limited view. Most casinos, however, plot their video slots’ payouts over periods of a tear or longer, and so do their auditors.

Mistakes Happen

All that being said, it is not entirely impossible or beyond belief, that sometimes a slot will pay back 100% or higher, if there is a mistake being made when creating the game. It’s very rare, but slots are developed by humans, which pretty much ensures that mistakes will be made. As noted, the casinos, whether brick and mortar or online casinos, monitor their slots rigorously, so it won’t take long for them to discover and correct the mistake. If you happen to be lucky enough to play a “defective“ slot like that, enjoy while it lasts.

Reasonable Expectations

In the end, it all boils down to reasonable expectations. Now that we know that over the long run, it is impossible for slots to pay back 100 percent of the wagers, what are those reasonable payout percentages? As a rule of thumb. Anything over 95% is considered a great payback, while anything under 91% should be avoided. We have to underline once again, that those numbers refer to a long-term spread of the payback structure. Therefore, this doesn’t meant that if you play at a slot machine with 91% payout you won’t have the chance to win big, and vice versa: just because you are playing at a high payout slot, it is not guaranteed that you will win. With the slot machines it will always boil down to luck and how much of it you are having at the time of play. So our advice would be to forget about the chase of the mythical slots that pay back 100%, instead enjoy your time at the casino and look for games with the highest fun factor.
